I don’t normally get involved in politics because I find it pointless to argue with people whose political views you will never change, but with all of the hysteria surrounding this healthcare bill (or should I say law?), I can’t help but blow off some of the steam from the blood that’s been boiling under my skin for the past few weeks.
Look at the mess this country is in, and for what? Because some of us believe that those who can’t afford or can’t get health insurance for whatever reason SHOULD have it? I don’t agree completely with the bill, but what I don’t get is the newfound interest Republicans seem to have with this issue. I’m SICK of seeing Republicans say they agree that healthcare does need reforming, but just not how Obama went about doing it. If they really feel it was that important, WHY DID THEY NOT DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT WHEN THEY WERE IN OFFICE THE PAST 8 YEARS?
Why all of a sudden is there such an interest with all of their ridiculous proposals and amendments? Trying to make Democrats look bad for turning down an amendment stating that sex offenders should not receive Viagra with our tax dollars under this bill? Honestly? I don’t know anyone who would WANT their tax dollars going toward some sex offender’s boner pills, but is this really the issue or is it just because you’re trying to continually muck things up and make yourselves look better for the coming elections? If you actually cared, you would put politics behind yourselves and HELP PEOPLE. And while we’re at it, why don’t you actually WORK while you’re at work rather than enforce some obscure rule that says you can choose to not work past 2pm? Delaying important matters that have absolutely nothing to do with healthcare reform is not the right way to handle this situation. If you want to work part time, why not take a part time paycheck with part time benefits? How about no health insurance like everyone else who has a part time job? If I was a Republican and my elected congresspeople were pulling these shenanigans, I know I wouldn’t be voting for them again. How is this not embarrassing to these people? I’m embarrassed for them. I can’t even begin to imagine how the rest of the world is looking at us right now. I guess they’ve already proven that they don’t care what the world thinks of this country, though.
And how about not wasting taxpayers’ dollars on these ridiculous lawsuits that are popping up from many states in order to prove this bill unconstitutional? If money is your concern and that’s one of the reasons you oppose this bill, how about save a little and don’t waste time with these frivolous lawsuits? All I have to say is that I’m glad I don’t live in Pennsylvania anymore because it’s one of the states involved in this insanity.
I’m also tired of seeing words like communism and socialism being thrown around. If you’re that against socialism, then why not get rid of every other social or government-funded program in the United States, too? Forget about Medicare, Medicaid and healthcare for those in the military. While you’re at it, forget about education since you don’t seem to have an education anyway. I’m not happy to know that our tax dollars are going toward public schooling and people are coming out like this. Do people not have brains anymore? Or morals? Funny how I don’t consider myself Christian and I have better morals than most of these right-wing Bible thumpers. Yet they’re the first ones to involve Jesus in order to justify why they do what they do. Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought Jesus helped those who were less fortunate. I didn’t have to attend a Catholic college for 5 years in order to figure that one out.
People calling in threats to those congresspeople who voted for the bill? People throwing bricks through windows of their offices? Are you serious? If you’re so pro-life, why doesn’t that apply to adults just as well as fetuses? Why do you have to resort to violence simply because you don’t agree with something? There are a lot of laws I don’t agree with, but I’m not going to kill anyone over it. I didn’t go throwing bricks through people’s office windows or send death threats when the Patriot Act went into place, and quite frankly, I think that bullshit is a hell of a lot more unconstitutional than the healthcare bill.
I’ll pull a Glenn Beck and say that I really do fear for this country’s future if this is the road we’re heading down. I really can’t believe some of the things I’ve been seeing in the news lately and I can’t believe there are people out there who think this crap is okay. Grow up, suck it up and start working together. Do people not realise that if Obama and his administration fail, the country fails? If you’re really that patriotic and really think country comes first, lets put the country first and get things done rather than make things worse.
Maybe this bill will be expensive, but I’m DAMNED GLAD that money is being spent to help those who live in this country rather than fund meaningless wars and bank bailouts. It’s time something be done to help us – the middle class – and not the rest of the world or just the wealthy business owners.
